Crossing no man’s land into north Nicosia

Crossing no man’s land into north Nicosia

by EatTravelRaveRepeatAdmin | Mar 28, 2019 | Cyprus, Itineraries, Travel, Travel Stories

How we got there Nicosia in Cyprus is literally a tale of two cities, on the south side is the Greek Cypriot part and north Nicosia is the Turkish occupied part known as Lefkosa. After the Berlin wall fell it became the last divided capital city in the world! On my...
Visiting the most amazing thermal spa in Budapest

Visiting the most amazing thermal spa in Budapest

by EatTravelRaveRepeatAdmin | Apr 9, 2018 | Hungary, Travel, Travel Stories

One of the biggest attractions in Budapest is the thermal spas; there are loads of bathhouses across the city – known as Fürdö in Hungarian. So naturally on my visit to the Hungarian capital, taking in the medicinal waters was top of my hit list. With limited time I...
5 things no one ever tells you about travelling

5 things no one ever tells you about travelling

by EatTravelRaveRepeatAdmin | Feb 27, 2018 | Travel, Travel Stories

If you look at Instagram you’d think that travelling is all about lying on beautiful beaches (hotdogs or legs anyone?), soaking up culture in historic cities (wearing a long flowing dress, natch) and drinking beers with your new travel buddies (boomerang of clinking...

2018 Travel plans and wishlist

by EatTravelRaveRepeatAdmin | Feb 7, 2018 | Travel, Travel Stories

Thank god January is over huh? Doesn’t it just seem to go on forever? Probably because most of us are on the post-Christmas diet and not going out it just drags and drags. Well now it’s officially February and dull January is over I’m starting to think...

Review of 2017 – Quitting London to travel

by EatTravelRaveRepeatAdmin | Jan 19, 2018 | Rave, Travel, Travel Stories

I actually wasn’t going to write a review of 2017, not really sure why. Maybe I thought no one would really give a damn (maybe you don’t), but as I was sat writing my goals for the next few months and the year ahead I was thinking maaaan 2017 was actually a really...
My first time riding a scooter

My first time riding a scooter

by EatTravelRaveRepeatAdmin | Mar 6, 2017 | Thailand, Travel, Travel Stories

Before I came to South East Asia I knew that at some point I would probably, weeeeeell, DEFINITELY need to ride a scooter. It’s the number one mode of transport in this part of the world and there are few local buses or trains on the islands. Hiring a car is almost...

Instagram post 2182156072830245276_2881574844 #throwbackthursday to last year when I ate the most amazing cheese fondue in a crusty bread roll at Edinburgh Christmas market. Washed down with a glass of white wine it was the perfect thing 😋 I absolutely love Christmas markets: the mulled wine, foods, German oompa bands and all that jazz. I’ll be heading to Newcastle Christmas market tomorrow and Manchester next weekend, but I’m thinking of squeezing in a third...where do you think I should go for food, drink and festive feels? 🎅🏼🎄
Instagram post 2177097493643340090_2881574844 Feels like forever ago we were in Portugal, but we got back just over 2 weeks ago 😱 the last two weeks have been a whirl wind though, as we finally moved into our new house and we’ve been consumed with packing and unpacking, furniture deliveries, changing address with banks etc and all that boring adulting stuff BUT it’s also all very exciting being in our lush home after 10 months of living out of suitcases.😱 Anyway, this lush little street view was taken in Faro, which although lots of tourists pass through the airport, so few people actually visit the town, which is such as shame. The Old Town is full of these cute little streets and squares crammed with gorgeous little cafes, restaurants and shops. It feels much more like a locals town than much of the surrounding Algarve too. Well worth a visit if you’re passing through. Have you been into Faro town?
Instagram post 2166056990645019038_2881574844 What a view! 😍 not gonna lie, my fear of heights made me feel a little bit sick all along the walk way. As it takes you very close and some times over the cliff edge. But it was well worth stepping outside of my comfort zone for
Instagram post 2165338224241751291_2881574844 I’m still absolutely buzzing from my trip to Portugal last week. It may well be blimmin Baltic at home now, but going through all my snaps are giving me a warm fuzzy glow. Especially these ones of the gorgeous coast line from Lagos to Ponta da Piedade 😍 every little cove is so stunning, with these incredible rock formations springing out of bright turquoise water. I can see why this whole area is so popular with kayakers. I’d love to go back to this part of the Algarve and explore some more
Instagram post 2158295086033588543_2881574844 This is exactly why I wanted to come to Lagos in Portugal, it has the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve 😍 You wouldn’t believe that just a few minutes earlier it had been lashing rain, and we were “forced” to take shelter in a beautiful seafood restaurant and drink wine until the storm passed! 😂
Instagram post 2139913206741609179_2881574844 I’ve gotta say, I’m pretty impressed with what they’ve done to Old Gotham, it’s hard to believe it’s the same boozer! We popped in for food and drinks before a gig at the arena and it was just the ticket. I had the chicken Caesar salad and I think it was probably the best one I’ve ever eaten with loads of lush pickled anchovies. Also, if you haven’t tried @tinyrebelbrewco jam doughnut yet, errr why not? It’s delicious 🍺
Instagram post 2131985521461941395_2881574844 Who would have thought just a couple of years ago that there would be such a sophisticated cocktail bar and restaurant on the Bigg Market in Newcastle?? I remember the days of necking Bacardi Breezers and cheap trebles in Blu Bambu 😂 and yet this whole area is going through a huge revival with a rebranding of “The Merchants Quarter” And to be honest I’m totally here for it! @hiboublanc_ncl is in a beautiful old building on the corner of High Bridge Street and Bigg Market, full of old school charm (wood panelling, marble, brass). They have a huge central bar plus a formal restaurant and a private dining room. We sampled a couple of their dishes from the bar snack menu: miso glazed pork skewers & salt beef croquettes, which were both seriously good. And a delicious rum/pineapple cocktail & punchy Malbec, perfect for date night ❤️
Instagram post 2126948190056972543_2881574844 Who doesn’t love a good Ruby Murray on a Friday night? This is a lamb Pathia made with tamarind and lime juice for a sweet and sour flavour and a chicken Handi; a traditional curry cooked on the bone with crushed poppadoms sprinkled over. And for me, you can’t have a curry without a Peshwari naan 😋😋👌🏼 what’s your go-to curry order?
Instagram post 2121960297970292380_2881574844 So today I was meant to be flying first class to Kuala Lumpur. We’d saved our air miles for years to get this trip of a life time. The plan was to fly to Jakarta and spend my birthday at the Grand Hyatt roof top bar then travel through java, Bali and Lombok over 4 weeks. However, we cancelled the trip because #adulting we’re buying a house by the coast and it’s taken a lot longer than expected ☹️ I’m sad about the trip (of course) but very happy about moving to the beach AND it’s also meant that we get a fun weekend at Lindisfarne Festival, which has been amazing! Silver lining n all that 👍🏻
Instagram post 2121181901367634123_2881574844 #throwbackthursday two years ago I was exploring Bali on my scooter. Visiting beaches, temples, markets and wizzing through rice paddies. I love the freedom that having your own wheels gives you. Especially somewhere like Bali where there’s so much to explore off the beaten path. By this point I’d been riding scooters all over south east Asia for 6 months, so was pretty confident, even in the chaotic streets around Kuta & Seminyak. But I’d had some proper comedy moments getting to grips with the bike, especially in Thailand 😂
Instagram post 2106727011463655240_2881574844 Had THE best time at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, even though it was just a very quick visit. I love the buzz of the city during the Fringe. The crazy shows, the street performers, the pop up venues and bars. If you haven’t been to Edinburgh during the Fringe yet, what are you waiting for? Get yourselves there! The festival runs until August 26th ✌🏼
Instagram post 2103706416572405348_2881574844 Beautiful York 😍 This weekend we travelled the length of the country to retrieve our campervan after it broke at Glastonbury! Randomly, it turned into an amazing little road trip with us having an overnight pit stop in York and it was the best decision ever. Wandering through all the cute little streets, eating amazing food (yes, including Yorkie puds) and drinking in just a few of the 365 pubs within the city walls 🍻 we enjoyed it so much we’re planning a proper weekend there ASAP. Where should we go next time? Would love some food & drink reccos
